Need help: One Color Tint effect
Posted: 27 Apr 2006 09:29 AM
I found a thread where someone made a red (light/dark) hue effect, but was wondering what parameter in the xml needs to be altered in order to get different colors. If it's not that simple, could someone make me a Blue, Yellow, Green please? If you need the original xml, here it is with a png image. I don't need that included (image). thanks a lot

The value you need to change is FadeColor... normally colors are specified in Red, Green, Blue (RGB) but in this one case, it is specified in reverse order as Blue, Green, Red (BGR).

If you look at a table of RGB colors, you should find a list of the RGB values. The values are given as six hexadecimal (Hex) characters. To make it work for the code above, you just need to switch the first two characters, with the last two characters and add the '0x' in front (this denotes hexadecimal).

For example:
NavyBlue is listed as 000080 (00,00,80) --> switch the first and last (80,00,00) and you have 0x800000 for NaveBlue
RoyalBlue is listed as 4169E1 (41,69,E1) --> switch the first and last (E1,69,41) and you have 0xE16941 for RoyalBlue.

You can repeat this process for any color you like. Essentially what these effects are doing is freezing a fade at the halfway point between your image and the fade color which gives you a tinting effect. You can also alter that Progress value to something between 0.0 and 1.0. (0.0 means that you see all of your picture with no effect from the color, 1.0 means you see just the color and no picture). I just left everything at 0.5, but if you want to, play with that setting.

As I noted above, these color effects are done by fading the video/picture with the color, so they tend to give you washed out and faded video...

There are other ways to change the hue of your video using the 'Hue' class:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="Hue: Yellow (Bright)" iconid="9">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Standard"/>
<Param name="Yellow" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="Magenta" value="-1.0"/>
<Param name="Cyan" value="-1.0"/>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Here's a link to another thread on a similar topic, using the Hue class: view post 30697

That's great! I really appreciate the little tutorial on how to tinker with colors. That made perfect sense! The second method makes the picture/video look amazing, but I like messing with the progress values on the fade method. Thanks alot!

Well its not as good as you think its gona be but, heres my beta color changer for vista. It has Blue, red, purple, and green. So you can individualy put 1 color on each picture, instead of using the effect the rapidly goes through all the colors.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="Color Change Green" iconid="10" guid="Color Change G" comment="Fade In, From Black" shadermodel="2">
