possible to show 2 video clips at same time ?
Posted: 16 Nov 2005 02:28 AM
I have tried the split thing (with 2 videos, left and right), but then you lose the right/left part of the movie. I was wondering if it's possible to view 2 videoclips at the same time without losing any part of the video. Like doing a PIP but where the 2 videoclips share equal screensize right/left or top/bottom?

I came up with an idea a while back. I don't know if you can use it or not.

Here is an example.

Use the following XML. It will make two new effects. Apply trapezoid right to first clip and trapezoid left to the other. Then put the split transition between the two. Hope this helps.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">

<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="Trapezoid (Right)" iconid="0">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.68" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.68" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="up" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="1.85" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="right" />

<Param name="Progress" value="0.14" />
</Effect>

<Effect name="Trapezoid (Left)" iconid="0">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.68" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.68" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="down" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="1.85" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="left" />

<Param name="Progress" value="0.14" />
</Effect>

</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

I was thinking more of a split where video fills the whole screen, but I liked those 2 effect :), thanks.

Is it possible to do at top/bottom split of your effect ?

I liked those effects too! I did something like this (but it didn't do Malette's cool perspective). Instead it did a split screen left/right. Each video was stretched to fit the half-screen rectangle. Check out the post (view post 20373) for a screenshot and the xml.

It is possiable to make a top/bottom split. So far I have not been happy with the results. I will keep trying. It will take a little more time. I should have something soon.

If you are looking for split type effect then consider the Split Horizontal transition in the split package at my website.

Otherwise you should be able to achieve what you want with PIP Plus.

mallett: very nice effects. well done.

Here is the XML for the top/bottom trapezoid effects.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">

<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">

<Effect name="Trapezoid Top" iconid="0">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.62" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.62" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="out" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="2.22" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="up" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.1" />

</Effect>

<Effect name="Trapezoid Bottom" iconid="0">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.62" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.62" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="in" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="2.22" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="down" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.1" />

</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Here is an example.

I noticed when I rendered it I got some static in the video. I hope it's something with my computer. If you have the same problem let me know so I can try to correct it.

I do have another idea that would fill in the entire screen but it going to take awhile for me to find time to work on it. I may have something by the first of the week.

Not to difficult to achieve as well. Thanks for sharing.

BTW what split are you using Mallett ? . I've tried Rehans static Vertical split and end up with somthing that resembles the dimensions of a cigarette down the centre of the screen. Having said that however , the effect works perfectly with the other vertical split effect in his package that has a wipe motion (That effect looks fantastic with each screen wiping in and out) - I just can't get the static vertical split to work ?

For the side-by-side, you want a vertical split. I think he has a couple, one with a blurred border and one without... but I may be mistaken. You want the one without a blurry border. If you look at the XML, there are parameters for 'BorderSoftness' and 'BorderThickness'. You want to remove any border softness or thickness parameters for a clean break.

For top/bottom, you want a horizontal split, but that I suppose is obvious.

Ah! I've just been out to collect my little girl from school and my left brain cell had a chance to talk to the right. The problem was quite easily solved. When using rehans vertical split transition Mallets right trapezoid needs to be clip number one and the Left hand trapezoid needs to go in the number two position.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments. I think that there could be a number of uses for these effects. My orginal idea was to use a larger trapazoid to reproduce the weather map they where using on the Weather Channel. Then I could blue screen in my own weather man but I never got that far. I would be interested in any other ideas anyone has for these.

I got both versions (Horizontal & Vertical Trapezoids) to work.

The vertical one does seem to consistently produce "noise" in the saved product, tho. A few black line flickers.

could someone explain to me though how exactly to do it? if you put one effect on the first clip and the other effect on another clip, and a slip at the transition how does it make that effect. do you have to drag the second clip over the first?

Yes. Drag them over each other.

Also, use the right transition. I used the "SPLIT: Horizontal" from Rehan for the side-by-side version.

... and order makes a difference. The right trapezoid effect needs to be applied to the left clip on your timeline bar ... and the left trapezoid effect needs to be applied to the right clip in the timeline bar ... which is counter-intuitive ... but it won't work unless you do it that way (for me, anyway).

Thanks for the feedback Magic. I'm not real sure whats making it do that but I got a couple of thing I can try.

I guess I should of been more clear on how to achive this effect. I will try to explain it better now.

The video that you want on the right side of the screen should be put in the timeline first. The left side video can then be added. Please note it should be the same length of a little shorter then the first.

Apply the right trapazoid to the first clip and the left trapazoid to the second. If you are planning on using any other effects on your clips you should put them in before the trapazoid.

I too am using Rehan's SPLIT: Horizonal transition. If you don't have it you can get it from Rehan's Website.

Put the SPLIT transition between the two clips and drag it to left to make it cover the entire length.

Thats all there is to it. If anyone is still having trouble please let me know.

I bet you are using the "Split, Vertical" transition and not the "SPLIT: Vertical" transition, from Rehan. I did that ...

If the problem is not what Magic said above. Could you upload a short video when you use the split transition? Maybe myself or someone else can spot the problem.

Wierd. I was using the Trapzoid effect today ... can't get it to render without "noise".

Anybody else having this problem?

Re: possible to show 2 video clips at same time ?

I don't know why sometime it has the noise and other times it don't. I have found it has something to do with the effect and the transition rendering together. To avoid the noise I have been applying the effect, saving the movie to my computer, import it back into movie maker and then split it and add the transition. Takes a little more time but the final results look a lot better.

For my Thanksgiving video I'm working on I was wanting use the trapazoids for the title and I was having trouble with the noise. I knew I was going to use two passes but ended up using three. By shrinking the trapazoids, using both the SPLIT: Horizontal, and SPLIT: Vertical transitions I got the effect I was wanting, four videos playing at once.

Here is what it looked like.

That's neat!

I did it the way you described ... saving individual videos then combining ... to no avail.

Maybe having the split black space in the middle will help.

Can you post the parameters you used to do that.

BTW, here's an example of the noise:

I don't know what to tell you. The noise you are getting is the same I got rid of using the solution above. I tried making a couple more using it and they came out flawless. If anyone has an idea please post so I can explore it. BTW, Magic I liked your idea of showing the crowd on one side and the performer on the other.

I should of explained that I used another set of effects to get the traps into the corners.
They are just like Rehans PIP transitions but they are effects. Here is the XML for it.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">

<Effect name="Mallett65s Top Left" iconid="1">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="left, up" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.25" />
</Effect>

<Effect name="Mallett65s Top Right" iconid="3">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="right, up" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.25" />
</Effect>

<Effect name="Mallett65s Bottom Right" iconid="3">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="right, down" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.25" />
</Effect>

<Effect name="Mallett65s Bottom Left" iconid="4">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.50" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="left, down" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.25" />
</Effect>

</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Just use the trapazoid effects, along with the effects above, plus the SPLIT: Transitions to get the results you seen in the video. Meanwhile I keep looking into the noise problem.
