Color Fades
Posted: 28 Oct 2012 03:13 PM
Can someone give me a complete xml to make a clip fade in and out from certain colors instead of black or white? If possible, the colors I was hoping for are red, pink, orange, blue, purple, and green.

Edit: See Awdball's post below. I accidentally posted a link to the XP versions of the fades.

Microsoft has supplied the xml for the normal fades here. All you have to do is change the "values" under "FadeColor Evaluation" to the correct percentage for the color you want. The fourth value is the opacity, which would go from 0.0 to 1.0. You can find the percent codes for a crap-ton of colors
here. The fades work best on really short clips, so I would split the ends of the clip. I wondered the same thing a while back. Here's the forum.

Thanks for posting the WMM 6.0 version of the fades. I don't know why I linked to the XP versions. Smiley

Thank you both! One last question though; to fade it from purple, do I just change the to in 'fade to purple' to from, or do I need a completely different xml?

Just changing the name and/or the guid will not work. You need to reverse the starting and ending color points. Basically, for a fade in, you start with the 4th parameter (opacity) set to 1.0 (solid) and then have it go to 0.0 (no color). For a fade out, it is the reverse of 0.0 (no color) going to 1.0 (solid).

Copy the following code into Notepad, save it as ColorFades.xml on your Desktop (or other temporary location). Now copy that file to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX. Restart Movie Maker to see the new effects.

As noted in the other post, the fade takes the full duration of the clip. If you only want a couple seconds of fading, split off that amount from the clip and apply the fade to only that small part.
