Reveal Up Transition for Vista?
Posted: 29 Nov 2011 11:57 PM
Where can I find a Reveal Up transition for Movie Maker 6.0 (Vista)?

On a map of the East Coast I want to slowly reveal the route from a town in Florida to one in Pennsylvania.

Good question! There are two built-in transitions for "Reveal, Down" and "Reveal, Right", but none for the other two directions (Up and Left).

However, by reversing the value of the "Out" parameters in the standard transitions, I was able to create these two transitions.
1) Copy/paste the following code into Notepad.
2) Save it as reveal.xml onto your Desktop or Documents folder.
3) Copy that file from there to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX (as always, if you don't have this folder, just create it).
4) Restart WMM 6.0 and you should have two new transitions (Reveal, Left and Reveal, Up)

Enjoy!

Blaine,

Thank you very much. It works just fine. Is there a way to make it move a little slower?

The speed is based on the transition overlap. So if you want it slower, make each image a longer duration and make the transition overlap longer as well.

So instead of:
AAAAA
......BBBBB

Make it:
AAAAAAAAAA
..BBBBBBBBBBB

The overlap is where the reveal transition will be.

Here's an example of the transition in use. It's an animated map showing a route from Miami, FL to Philadelphia, PA.

I made each image about 7 seconds long with a 5.5 second overlap for the transition.

If anyone wants to try to recreate this to understand how it works, here are the images:

mapafter.png

You might want to add some sound too...

Blaine,

Thank you. That is great! Your animated map is exactly what I would like to produce. It shows the route from A to B slowly, with nothing except the route changing. When I use the Reveal Up transition the map is covered by a "red window" which raises to reveal the route. Your animated map does not have that red window and, therefore, is much more effective. If you are using the Reveal Up transtion, why is there no red window on your animated map?

How does yours look in the preview? You should see it wiping from the bottom to top. It shows the first image (red flower in the preview) wiping to the second image underneath (the yellow/orange flowers).

Unless you are starting with a red background, I wouldn't expect to see what you are seeing. Are your images just like mine? In other words is the before image just the map with the markers? And is your after the exact same image but with the path added?

Can you take a snapshot from the timeline showing your problem and then upload it somewhere like imageshack.us?

Blaine,

Believe it or not, I was only using the reveal up transition and the after image. That shows how completely I had forgotten how to do this. When the before image was added it worked perfectly. It looks almost as good as yours, except for
the map.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your help!
