I just created a set of custom "Boxed Text" titles.

There are 3 variations (top, middle or bottom) and you can customize the text font, background and foreground colors, size, alignment, etc.

Here's a Sample Video of Blaine's Boxed Text Titles

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Boxed text (top)" iconid="13" guid="Boxed text (top)" comment="Blaine's Boxed text (top)">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Boxed text at the top of the screen" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.1 0.8 0.1" />
<Param name="BannerType" value="Normal" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="14" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepVerticalConstant" />
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="None" />
<Param name="BannerShadowColor" value="#00000000" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="64" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
<Title name="Boxed text (middle)" iconid="13" guid="Boxed text (middle)" comment="Blaine's Boxed text (middle)">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Boxed text in the middle of the screen" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.45 0.8 0.1" />
<Param name="BannerType" value="Normal" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="14" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepVerticalConstant" />
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="None" />
<Param name="BannerShadowColor" value="#00000000" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="64" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
<Title name="Boxed text (bottom)" iconid="13" guid="Boxed text (bottom)" comment="Blaine's Boxed text (bottom)">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Boxed text at the bottom of the screen" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.8 0.8 0.1" />
<Param name="BannerType" value="Normal" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="14" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepVerticalConstant" />
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="None" />
<Param name="BannerShadowColor" value="#00000000" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="64" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Copy the purple text above into Notepad and save it in your Documents folder (or on your desktop) as BoxedText.xml. After that, copy the file into the following folder
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX

To use the title, go to Tools > Titles and Credits
Choose to place the title on the selected clip.

For the animation, look in the One Line titles and choose either Boxed Text (top), Boxed Text (middle) or Boxed Text (bottom). Then feel free to change the font text and colors as desired. Finally click the 'Add Title' button.

Blaine!

So daughter number two is now making videos!!! She loves this box title as she puts her notes in there about what she is doing on the screen. The difference between with the box and without, is amazing. It makes it so much easier to read the text.

Now I changed the max number of characters allowed from 62 to 100... of course that makes the font really small in order to get it all on one line.

Is there anyway to tweak it so that the box can grow as the text does and wrap the text?

Or maybe have the box big enough for two lines of text?

thanks again.

Several things you might want to tweak:

To remove the restriction to a single, remove the following line:
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />

You might play with the resizing technique from KeepVerticalConstant. Perhaps try KeepHorizontalConstant instead.

For more details on custom titles check Rehan's page.

I made some modifications to the original code and now it allows for multiple lines, with resizing of the box to match content, etc.

I removed these lines:
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="64" />

I added/modified the lines in bold:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">

<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Boxed text (top)" iconid="13" guid="Boxed text (top)" comment="Blaine's Boxed text (top)">

<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectNone" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.1 0.8 0.5" />

I was asked how to make this work for Windows XP. This is version #1, but you can make similar changes to get version #2.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">

<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Boxed text at the top of the screen" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectNone" />

Hi, I know this may be off topic but I can't find an appropriate thread. Do you know if there is any download available to make text glow? Thank you

Note, to create your own thread, go to the forum category that makes the most sense and click the 'New Thread' button in the upper left, just above the posts.

As for your answer, there really isn't any way to customize the look of the text in a title to make it glow. You can create a title like normal and then apply a video effect, assuming the text is on a title of its own without any other background picture or video. I'm still not sure what effect would get you a "glow" look to your text however.
