My First Effects!!!
Posted: 26 Sep 2008 07:00 PM
Ok, so I made quite a few effects. This is the first time I have ever made effects, so... hopefully they're decent enough for most people. All of my codes contain a (C) in front for two reasons. The first one is to find it easier in the effects list, and the second reason is the "C" in it stands for my name. It's kind of a logo kind of thing. So... yeah that explains it. I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to combine all the codes together in one big code, so I'll give you some of the single codes to some of my favorite effects:

First, I made an effect that I call "Cradle". I call it that because it makes the clip come in like it's rocking back and forth, like a cradle. I guess you could call it a "Rocking Boat" effect too. Here's the code:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="(C)Cradle" iconid="24" guid="(C)Cradle" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Rotate" />
<RotationDegree evaluation="Linear" type="float">
<Point time="0.0" value="0.0"/>
<point time="0.2" value="-40.0" />
<point time="0.25" value="40.0" />
<point time="0.45" value="-40.0" />
<point time="0.5" value="40.0" />
<point time="0.7" value="-40.0" />
<point time="0.75" value="40.0" />
<Point time="0.95" value="0.0"/>
<Point time="1.0" value="0.0"/>
</RotationDegree>
<CameraZoom evaluation="Linear" type="float4">
<Point time="0.0" value="0.2"/>
<Point time="0.25" value="0.40"/>
<Point time="0.5" value="0.60"/>
<Point time="0.75" value="0.80"/>
<Point time="1.0" value="1.0"/>
</CameraZoom>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Ok, my next one I call "Cutout". This effect only works with brighter kind of scenes, but it's still kind of cool. I don't know how I made this... I was just fooling around with numbers and ended up with this! This effect kind of resembles like... construction paper pieces cut out and placed in the different areas of light. Ok, it's hard to explain. Test it out for yourself! Here is the code:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8" specialiconfileid="5637" specialiconresourceid="101" >
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="(C)Cutout" iconid="0" guid="(C)Cutout" ShaderModel="2">
<Animation value="FX" />
<FXFile value="DPL Glow Effect.fx" />
<Technique value="DPLGlowEffect"/>
<Semantics>
<Color type="float4" value="1,1,1,1" />
<Range type="float" value="1.0" />
</Semantics>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Now, for my next effects, I will bring out some that I use quite often in my videos. Here, ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, these bunch of effects that I like to call... "Katchup & Mustard". I have 3 different Katchup and Mustard effects in this group here because they all have a different way of working with light fixtures. One of them might work just perfectly on a bright scene, but when you use the same one on a dark scene, it doesn't look good at all because it all looks the same. This is why I made different "versions", so to say, to get all the ones you need for all your clip's needs. Here is the code:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="(C)Katchup and Mustard 1" iconid="0" guid="(C)Hot Dog Colors 1" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Fade" />
<Semantics>
<FadeColor evaluation="Linear" type="float4">
<Point time="0.0" value="1.0,0.5,-30.6,6.1"/>
<Point time="2.5" value="0.5,0.2,0.5,2.0"/>
</FadeColor>
</Semantics>
</Effect>
<Effect name="(C)Katchup and Mustard 2" iconid="0" guid="(C)Katchup and Mustard 2" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Fade" />
<Semantics>
<FadeColor evaluation="Linear" type="float4">
<Point time="0.0" value="1.0,0.3,-30.6,6.1"/>
<Point time="2.5" value="0.5,0.2,0.5,2.0"/>
</FadeColor>
</Semantics>
</Effect>
<Effect name="(C)Katchup and Mustard 3" iconid="0" guid="(C)Katchup and Mustard 3" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Fade" />
<Semantics>
<FadeColor evaluation="Linear" type="float4">
<Point time="0.0" value="1.0,0.7,-30.6,6.1"/>
<Point time="2.5" value="0.5,0.2,0.5,2.0"/>
</FadeColor>
</Semantics>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

And my LAST effect that I am going to put on this post is called "Inward Puddle Ripple." I like and dislike this effect because it's pretty cool, but for some reason it goes really fast... but yeah. The name pretty much explains itself. It's like a puddle rippling, but it's going inward instead of outward. I'm not sure how to explain it any other way. Here is the code:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="(C)Inward Puddle Ripple" iconid="0" guid="(C)Inward Puddle Ripple" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Ripple" />
<Semantics>
<WaveControls evaluation="Linear" type="float2">
<Point time="0.0" value="1.0,2.0"/>
<Point time="1.0" value="0.0,0.0"/>
</WaveControls>
<WaveCenter evaluation="Step" type="float2">
<Point time="0.0" value="0.5,0.5"/>
</WaveCenter>
<Frequency value="30.0" type="float">
</Frequency>
<Speed value="200.0" type="float">
</Speed>
<Height value="0.5" type="float">
</Height>
</Semantics>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

I hope you guys enjoy my first effects, and I will be posting more soon!

Hey BlackbuckTwilight,

Creative use of DPLGlowEffect. Smiley

I never thought of that combination of parameters. Makes an interesting effect.

I really like these effects, and also your othersSmiley! Please post more, I really like these and hope for more. Instead of (C) in the name you could do say "by BlackBuckTwilight(C)" in the description!

Thanks for making these and I hope you'll post more,

Thanks for the idea, but... wouldn't BlackbuckTwilight(C) be a little long? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding. Is "description" the comment? If so, I could do that from now on. If it's the actual name itself, I think it would be just a little long...

Thank you for your kind words, and I'll try to make some more decent effects as soon as I can! :)

<Effect name="Name of your effect" iconid="0" guid="Guid is a name/code for moviemaker to seperate effects. No guids may be the same!" comment="Here can you type anything, so also effect name, (C) or (C) or Blackbuck" shadermodel="2">

You can make an effect without a comment, with a comment it won't change, it's just an extra tag. I hope it's clear!

Um... yeah. The whole point of (C) was to be able to find my effects on the list easier...

Maybe it's because you need DPL Glow Effects first! My Cutout effect requires that to be installed to work.

Cool effects!
I usually don't like "wave" and "ripple" effects but yours I like.
I also like your Katchup and Mustard effects. Good job!
Heh... Hot Dog Colours...
