DPL Color Glow Effects
Posted: 21 Aug 2008 01:05 PM
See video for a sample of these Effects.

If you like what you see, download and run the installer. You may need administrator privilege. It has a proper uninstaller.
Four Color Glow effects will be installed, Red, Green, Blue and Yellow.

ShaderTFX is not required.

The effects are stackable and can be used in combination with other effects. They apply some nice subtle glow effects on some images and are totally ineffective on other images. Depends on the content and the colors involved. It is no TRON but sometimes useful.

These Effects are KISS glow effects where first the image is blurred in the XY directions, then at each blurred sample if the color is in range of the specified color, it's intensity is increased, otherwise the original unblurred sample is returned. It is a combination of techniques taken from Blaine's Bloom effects and Rehan's ColorPass and Chroma effects.

See the .fx file for the XML parameters you can tweak. The most interesting are Color, Range and Intensity.

Enjoy.

Hi Patrick L.,

thanks for these new effects! It's a good idea people without ShaderTFX can use these too, and the idea behind these effects is great. I'm going to make some more effects on these with less range, if you allow me, because these effects do not look good in all situations.

BTW: just read a thread about PIP++Scared , will it be available in Vista, when or don't you know?

TheOnePb
thanks again

Hi,

I couldn't wait posting these...Smiley! So here they are:
These effects will only work if you install the DPL Glow Effects - check 2 posts above...
How to use:
1) Go to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared. Create a new folder called AddOnTFX using right-click > New Folder. If there is a folder called AddOnTFX already, do nothing.
2) Copy and paste the XML code into Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
3) Now save the XML into C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX with a name that ends in .xml (this is an important step)
In Vista, you will likely get warnings that prevent you from saving directly in the AddOnTFX folder. If so, save in another folder (like 'Documents') then copy the file to the AddOnTFX folder in a separate step.
4) Restart Movie Maker (by closing the program and restarting it).

<!-- *****************************************************
Save as DPL Glow Effect2.xml to AddOnTFX Folder

<!-- Edited by TheOnePb - my notes:
This XML for Windows Moviemaker 6.0 Vista installs 24 additional Glow effects for you.
This XML is made by TheOnePb. Please use this webpage with sharing: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=181282

TheOnePb, of course you can make some more, and thanks for asking. That's why I build them and post them, so you and others can create with them and share back to the forum. (whoops, you already didWink)

And nicely done too. I might have boomeranged the other way, but that is just me. And you might say in your instructions that DPL Glow Effects must be installed first. Just nits.

I have no idea of Rehan's plans (if any) for PIP++ functions for MM 6.x. However, if you have MM 2.6 installed on Vista, that works just fine with his current beta. view post 112752 and view post 180474.

Hi Patrick L.,

boomerang in 2 ways applied now on this XML and on the Bloom In&Out XMLSmiley! Thanks for the idea.. I added a line DPL Glow Effects must be installed first..

And for Pip++.. I know I can work with 2 moviemakers but I'm happy one works now so I'll leave it to this oneWink!

Can anyone re-post the code for this? The installer is no longer available.

Thanks!

When I open up WMM, the files are there, but are blank with a red "X" in the middle, and when I preview them, or put them on a file, there is no effect, just a black screen. Please help with my problem. This also happened with the desaturation effect. :(

I tried to edit the FX file and I was able to make the red have a bigger range. I wasn't able to figure out how to edit the other colours and change the "blur" though. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Matt, you might use just the XML.
Look at the DPL Glow Effect.xml file.
There is one more command available to play with -- Blur whose default is 2.0.
<Blur type="float" value="2.0" />

...
<Effect name="DPL Glow Red" iconid="3" guid="DPL Glow Red" ShaderModel="2">
<Animation value="FX" />
<FXFile value="DPL Glow Effect.fx" />
<Technique value="DPLGlowEffect"/>
<Semantics>
<Color type="float4" value="1,0,0,1" />
<Range type="float" value="0.5" />
<Blur type="float" value="2.0" />
</Semantics>
</Effect>
...

Change color with the Color command (rgba)
Detection sensitivity with the Range command
Blur size with the Blur command

Have fun, PatrickL

Thanks. Unfortunately, my blue is stuck with a blur over every colour when I add it and red is the only colour I can modify. I have to use the .fx to modify red. Modifying the XLM doesn't do anything.

*bump* Can anyone help me with editing effects? I find that editing the XLM file doesn't do anything and you have to change the FX file. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Do I need to reinstall the effects? Thanks.
