DPL PhotoStack Transitions for ShaderTFX
Posted: 10 May 2008 11:25 AM
See PhotoStack Demo for a video sample of these Transitions.

If you like what you see, Download and run the installer exe. You may need administrator privilege. It has a proper uninstaller.
Six PhotoStack transitions will be installed. Two for odd/even transitions and four to start and stop the sequence.
You must have ShaderTFX installed and operating unexpired or registered.

This set of transitions is a port (with permission) of the fine design by dlk in MM XP land which uses PIP+. See dlk MM Forum Post view post 167484.

A way to use this set is:

- In Tools->Options set Picture Duration to twice what you like (I use 8 sec)
- Drag all the photos you want to the timeline
- Order them the way you want and apply any effects you want
- Starting at the left, overlap photo2 with photo1 half way (4 sec?) creating a fade transition.
- Progress to the right, overlapping each photo to the left as far as you can. Butt them up.
- Now, drag the PhotoStack1(odd) transition to the first transition, PhotoStack2(even) to the second transition and continue alternating them to the end.
- Now, add a copy of the first photo to the beginning and of the last photo to the end.
- Overlap the first 2 photos and the last 2 photos and apply Start1(Odd) the the first transition and Stop1 or Stop2 to the last, matching the last of the transitions (Odd or Even).
- That's it.
- If you add a photo or delete a photo you have to go back and make sure the transitions are in the correct Odd-Even sequence. Probably best done in the Storyboard view.

Another way to start and stop the stack is described in dlk's post. It uses a Scroll, Inverted Title Overlay to fade into and out of the PhotoStack. I think I like that approach even better.

Enjoy, PatrickL

Is there a way to change the background to a color other than grey?

StarGuy, the background is an image (composed by dlk) dlkPhotoStack.png that you will find in the AddOnTFX folder. Just modify its background to what you want. Note: If you change the borders or the positions of the background stack photos you will have to modify the XML to match your new design. If you make some new backgrounds, how about sharing them here?

Thanks TheOne... It's difficult to come up with a design deal with the underlying stack, but in the XML you can change paths, rectangle sizes and the entry points of the next photo.

Odd and Even so that the last 2 new photos look offset stacked. I'll look at your other posts.

Hi Patrick L.,

I think the background is not sharp enough.. Just too much blur. But it looks good anyway.
I'll share my new XML's...
I get the odd and even nowSmiley! Bit stupid that I didn't understand, but I didn't look very good at the demo videoWink! I hope you will look at my posts in a few daysSmiley!

Here is an XML file utilizing the DPL PhotoStack addon. This one has the new photo shrink in or zoom in from the upper left or the upper right. 4 combinations and 4 transitions. Also, no odd/even versions so the stack isn't quite as cool as dlk's. dlk's Scroll, Inverted title trick could be used to start and stop a sequence gracefully.

As usual, copy to notepad, then save into AddOnTFX as "DPL PhotoStackB Transition.xml".

These are really awesome too!!! I imagine you could do plenty of animations for this particular display system. As I am still learning how to do these, could you tell me how I could make a picture spin in (Spin Transition)?
Thanks

I would like that too.

I've been trying, but when I rotate about the z-axis within ShaderTFX, I get distortions from the native 4:3 (16:9) aspect ratio of the image. Haven't cracked it yet.

I may need Rehan's help here. May heck, I do need help! Embarassed

Hi all,
It's nice to see this transition generate some interest. Just for clarification,
the background was intentionally blurred in order to convey depth of field for
the stack. However, maybe it didn't achieve the desired effect? As Patrick says,
a user could create his own stack background... maybe with more photos, with a
different background color and with less or no blur if that looked better to you.

Well, there is no "original background" per se. It was a photoshop
creation. I found some photos on google images that had some nice
color, I put them in separate layers, I added the white borders, then
I skewed them, then shifted them a bit so they looked like they were
thrown one on top of the other, and then I added the Gaussian blur.
I don't think I saved a version before the blur was added, but I will
look to see if I saved the PSD project file.(I am not on that PC right now)

I checked, and although I still have the project file,
it's beyond the point of no return. I would need
to start over.

-EDIT: POST #300Big Smile! Still ahead of Patrick L., with serieus posts both!
Hi Dlk,

That's too bad. What I meant was actually to have a basic foreground (2 frames, gradient background and in the frames nothing), so everyone can insert his/her own background pictures and so create something personal/that fits with there video theme. If you apply blur, like you did, you can't cut very well anymore. That's what I mean.. I hope you understand. I'm not really that good with photoshop, so this are all my words how I can explain this. I hope you can make that.

Hi Gacraol,

Do you mean your ShaderTFX transitions do not work? If these don't work, it's not strange these don't work too. Maybe make a new topic with your questions?

Hi Patrick L.,

I'm making a lot transitions with PhotoStack and I will post these soon or later if that's fine with you. It's just that you know!!Smiley

TOP,
I think I know what you want... I'll see what I can do. However,
when you rotate those frames, they also get the jaggies(even in
Photoshop), so that blur also fixes that up a bit. Now perhaps
a real Photoshop person knows a better way... so if there is anyone
out there, by all means speak up.

Hi Dlk,

That's not a problem, because everyone needs to apply there own picture and then add blur for themselve, so the quality issue is gone!!!

TheOnePb charge on with new PhotoStack transitions. Glad to see someone enhancing my stuff and making new ones available to all. How 'bout you making some more AniLogo sprite sheets. I love those things.

By the way, didn't know we were in a post race. I'm not. Wink

Hi Patrick L.,

where can I find more information about "point time, square, float4?". Because I can't find it. (EDIT: Found an important thing by trying out. But still, more information could be usefull..Smiley)...-> Progress? Well, I almost finished one new thing, but it's not very impressive but it's usefull. More will follow and then (I don't know how long it can take) I'll post them.
Why is this not added to the custom list?

Some info about point time is at MS XML Info and follow the Evaluation Curve Type link to find out about "square". note: square is shorthand for SquareEvaluation.

Progress is a float, and it can be similiarly made to start, move and stop the progress of the TFX. 0.0 is the start of the TFX and 1.0 is the finish of the TFX.

Ok, thanks.
I already made a lot new things, like SDL and SDR tooSmiley..
But I need a title made of it (with background dlk.jpg so everyone can have their own) and not with odd and even but with only 1 frame (so like the end of ZUR)..

Is this possible and am I clear?? I hope so because then a lot more things are possible (professional even!!!)..

Thanks,
