Is there a Vista Scroll Up without "Perspective"?
Posted: 09 Oct 2007 12:17 AM

Please let me know if there's a Vista WMM scroll up without "perspective." I'm fooling around with a video parody of a movie in which several paragraphs, each line about five words across, scroll up against a black backgound, and the closest thing to it in WMM has "perspective" that makes the words seem to go farther into the distance as they rise.

Your movie maker should have a credits option closer to the bottom of the title options. Select- Scroll, up stacked. You can make your heading smaller if you wish to fit more info in.

I haven't had a chance to test this code, but I assume it would be the following:

Copy/paste this into Notepad. Save it in 'Documents' as 'scrollup.xml' and then copy it into C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX

Edit: The following code is missing some parameters. The replacement is in a later post.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Scroll, Up" iconid="13" guid="Scroll, Up no perspective">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Scrolls text from bottom to top" />
<Param name="OptimalDurationMultiplier" value="3.0" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectNone" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 1.5" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.5 -0.5" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepHorizontalConstant" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="1024" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Let me know if it works.

Thanks! It worked a little bit--the title Scroll up appeared at the end of the one line list with no description. But when I clicked on it, the screen stayed black with no letters.

Vista Movie Maker has a bug where the description doesn't show, but at least the title should work. What text did you type into the box? I'll try it later today and see if I can duplicate your symptoms.

Okay, I figured out the problems. Here's the revised code:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Scroll, Up" iconid="13" guid="Scroll, Up no perspective">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Scrolls text from bottom to top" />
<Param name="OptimalDurationMultiplier" value="3.0" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectNone" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.33" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 1.5" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.5 -0.6" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepHorizontalConstant" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="1024" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Yeah, I keep forgettting that the EntrancePosition and ExitPosition parameters need an evaluation modifier in Vista. It doesn't just default to Linear (which in my mind it should).

You seem to know this stuff. This probably goes beyond making a WMM effect, but do you have any advice for how to make a video of a guy on a bicycle look like he's going through a wind storm, like the bike putside the window of the house in the tornado in the Wizard of Oz except without the window framing it? I figure a Sienna tint, but I couldn't find the inside of a tornado on you tube.

You might want to read through how the tornado was created in the original Wizard of Oz.

The film from inside the tornado was done by having a spinning camera inside of the tornado "tube". You could do something similar by creating a muslin tube and rotating it around the camera (or keeping it still and spinning the camera inside like they did). You could speed it up later if the speed isn't fast enough.

Then film your bicycle rider in front of a bluescreen and use the bluescreen transition to place them in front of the spinning tornado clip.

I knew about the Wizard of Oz special effects work, but thanks anyway. I thought of something within my budget--the desert in GTA San Andreas during a sandstorm.

P.S.: is there a way to crop the image of a video in the Vista WMM? (Also, I should have written "sepia" before.)

Two questions regarding the XML code above

1. What exactly does OptimalDurationMultiplier do. I though it determines the duration text stays on the screen. I tried other values such as 1.0 and 5.0 but did not see any difference.

2. Is 1024 the max value of MaxCharacterCount? I tried other values such as 2024 and was still limited to 1024.

Rehan's http://www.rehanfx.org/customtc.htm is great and more details can be added since it was published back in 2005.

I tried this and I dont see an option in the Title One Line List. I'm using Version 2.1 of Movie Maker. I placed the folder AddOnTFX in MovieMaker/Shared and MovieMaker/MUI/1309/ as per the MSDN help page. But it still doesnt work. BTW, on the line, TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8", should the version be "1.0"?

Thanks,
Bijoy.

You are trying to use a title designed for Vista Movie Maker (6.0). Since you have 2.1, you want to use the version compatible with XP Movie Maker (2.x).

I'll try to find you a link...

Note, you might want to look in the 'Share Your XP Transitions and Effects' forum instead, if you have 2.1.

What about using this XML to make a scroll up that stops in the middle of the screen for the last piece of text? I'm new to making XML files for WMM so I'm not sure which part of the script to edit to do that.

Basically, I'm looking for it to do what this script does, but at the end, the last sentence/paragraph/word (depending on what you're doing) will stop mid screen, before fading out.

Is there a way to accomplish that?

I'm using the title maker

Scroll, Up (view post 144032) -- scroll up (without perspective)
http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?&PostID=144032

in a video on Vista 32 bit. I used it before on the same system with the same
type of clips and MP3s without a problem. But this time, the ends of the words
I add to videos don't appear in the publshed version (?!). For example,
"forever" comes out "foreve," etc. I double-checked the titles, published it
again, and got the same problem. Please help--what's the cure for that?

You could have it scroll down but you'll see the last line first and the first line last.

If you want to do that, just switch the EntrancePosition and ExitPosition values. You'll probably want to change the name, guid and description as well. Here's the XML with the required changes.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Scroll, Down" iconid="13" guid="Scroll, Down no perspective">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Scrolls text from top to bottom" />
<Param name="OptimalDurationMultiplier" value="3.0" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectNone" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.33" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.5 1.5" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 -0.6" evaluation="Linear" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="ResizingTechnique" value="KeepHorizontalConstant" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="1024" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>
