Values of title param 'Animation'?
Posted: 20 Aug 2007 10:56 AM
I have been searching for about an hour already trying to find what the values for <param name="Animation" /> are in context to titles. I am trying to edit Blaine's "Subtitle Left (fade in & out)" and "Subtitle Right (fade in & out)" (see post 117656) so then when they fade in they also slide in from the left and when they fade out they slide to the left. I am using Vista (MM6). Also, is it possible to have a simple black outline on the text?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I am running Windows Movie Maker 6 on Windows Vista.

I haven't jumped into the custom XML code for Vista as much as others, and don't know the answers to your questions... maybe one of them will respond.

The parameters for titles are much the same as they were for XP. One difference is that the parameter "InternalName" is replaced by "Animation". If you refer to Rehan's website (www.rehanfx.org) on Custom Titles, he lists the valid values for "InternalName" (aka "Animation" in Vista).

InternalName / Animation:
One of {TitleStandard, TitleMultiTitles, CreditsStandard}

TitleStandard are the One-Line* titles that have a single paragraph
TitleMultiTitles are the Two-Line* titles that have two paragraphs
CreditsStandard are the Credit titles with a header and then pairs of paragraphs for each credit.

* One-line and Two-line are slight misnomers. They are really one "paragraph" and two "paragraph" titles. You can define a paragraph to be a single line (with IsOneLine = true) or multiple lines.

Does that help?

Yup thanks :)
I asked that question because I am trying to figure out how to make a subtitle slide in as it is fading in, by using your subtitle fade left/right xml code (post 117656) and also is it possible at all to have a simple black outline (at least 2-3px thick)

Again, thanks :)

I am running Windows Movie Maker 6 on Windows Vista.

For motion, check EntrancePosition and MainPosition parameters. For outline, set ShadowOutline to Outline.

More details on Rehan's website. Study the parameters and the edited XML files for examples of how the standard titles (some with motion) work.

I am trying this out (on Vista, really need to state this in my signature >_<) and I just see the text fade in at one place on the screen, disappear for a second, and reappear at the bottom, only to fade out again.

The XML that I am using:

<Title name="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)" iconid="13" guid="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)" comments="Blaine's Post 117656">
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 0.0"/>
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.0 0.0"/>

<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true"/>
<Param name="HorizontalAlignment" value="left"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.05 0.85 0.9 0.1"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>

The subtitle effect that I am trying to achieve is similar to this AMV: http://youtube.com/watch?v=boGPuv__ef8

I am running Windows Movie Maker 6 on Windows Vista.

Try the following:

For XP:
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)" iconid="13" guid="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)" comments="Blaine's Post 135059">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.05 0.85 0.9 0.1"/>
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.6 0.5"/>
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.5 0.5"/>
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.4 0.5"/>

<Param name="Description" value="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true"/>
<Param name="HorizontalAlignment" value="left"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

For Vista:
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)" iconid="13" guid="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)" comments="Blaine's Post 135059">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.05 0.85 0.9 0.1"/>
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.6 0.5" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.5 0.5"/>
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.4 0.5" evaluation="Linear"/>

<Param name="Description" value="Subtitle Slide Left (fade in/out)"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true"/>
<Param name="HorizontalAlignment" value="left"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Okay that works, but it's pretty choppy. Do I need to edit anything in order to make it more smoother?

I am running Windows Movie Maker 6 on Windows Vista.

Oh, and I have noticed that Vista WMM doesn't support Outline anymore (or at least is seems to be)

That's weird... it works great in XP. I hadn't tested in Vista, but now I'm noticing that it jumps position rather than sliding. I need to figure that one out. Bizarre.

Okay, I figured out the problem... you need to add 'evaluation="Linear"' to the lines for Extrance and Exit position...

Okay, so I've been doing some tweaking to the code. One of the things that I have noticed is that when setting the param "ShadowOutline" to "Outline", it acts as if the value is not valid. Is there any way to have an outline on text? Thanks. :)

I've noticed that too. In fact the standard 'Subtitle' in XP has an outline and in Vista it does not. It appears that only Shadow works. I've brought it to the attention of the Movie Maker team.

Blaine: " I've brought it to the attention of the Movie Maker team."

That was three years ago -- has anything been done in regard to the outline?

Does the Movie Maker "team" actually respond to requests? If so, how does one go about making one? For example, the XML no longer seems to support "comments;" that seems like poor planning to me.

Don't hold your breath on WMM development.
If all what they came for 7 is MMLive, that looks more dead to me and others.
