Heartbeat Effect for Vista
Posted: 21 Aug 2007 08:14 AM
The following XML creates a 5 beat heartbeat ala Rehan's heartbeat in PIP+.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8" >
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="DPL Heartbeat1" iconid="6" guid="dpl Heartbeat1" comment="dpl Heartbeat1" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Rotate" />
<CameraZoom evaluation="Linear" type="float">
<Point time="0.00 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.10 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.11 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.12 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.16 " value=" 1.00"/>

<Point time="0.30 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.31 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.32 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.36 " value=" 1.00"/>

<Point time="0.50 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.51 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.52 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.56 " value=" 1.00"/>

<Point time="0.70 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.71 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.72 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.76 " value=" 1.00"/>

<Point time="0.90 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.91 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.92 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.96 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="1.00 " value=" 1.00"/>
</CameraZoom>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Put the effect on a 4-6 sec photo of your significant other. It might pay dividends.Wink

Planet kids do not double post and it is very simple, just copy the first
<
from the last
>
you see. Then paste it into notepad, save as, .xml

Copy the code (Highlight and hit crtl + c OR right click > copy)
Open notepad (not wordpad)
Paste the code onto notepad (crtl + v OR right click > paste)
At the upper left hand corner of Notepad there will be a "Drop down" you can click on, it says "File"
Click it
Click "Save As"
Near the bottom of the box that opens when you click "Save as" there will be what you want to name the file.
Name it ".xml"
Change the directory to "Desktop" (Cause if you try to save it to AddOnTFX it will deny it - More than likley)
Then right click on the xml file you just saved (It won't have a name)
And click "Rename" name it
Move it to AddOnTFX (Don't know how to get there?)>(Open up "Run" and type "C:\program files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX"

Simple enough to follow? Good luck it really isnt too hard, if your still having trouble i'll just make the file for you and make a batch file that moves it to AddOnTFX as well if your having trouble with that too.

Good luck

You have to create that folder... then put the .xml file in there.

Open up 'Computer' and navigate to C: drive, then 'Program Files', then 'Shared'. Tell it to create a new folder and call it 'AddOnTFX'. Copy the .xml from your desktop to there.

Re: Heartbeat Effect for Vista

Just modify the one above to have it be a single beat.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8" >
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="TFX">
<Effect name="DPL Heartbeat (one beat)" iconid="6" guid="dpl Heartbeat (one beat)" comment="dpl Heartbeat1" shadermodel="2">
<Param name="Animation" value="FX" />
<Param name="FXFile" value="Parity.fx" />
<Param name="Technique" value="Rotate" />
<CameraZoom evaluation="Linear" type="float">
<Point time="0.00 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.50 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.55 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.60 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.80 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="1.00 " value=" 1.00"/>
</CameraZoom>
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

The effect is dependent on the length of clip you apply it to.

Is there any way to make it go the normal speed on a long clip and/ or can you make it zoom out farther?

Split the clip. It's just that simple.
Example: this is the clip: ---
now you split it 3 times - - - and you give the middle one the heartbeat effect. If you want it to go faster, make the split shorter.
I hope you get it,

Re: Heartbeat Effect for Vista

Study the code and you should be able to make it do what you want...

The relevant lines are given below.
<Point time="0.00 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.50 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="0.55 " value=" 1.20"/>
<Point time="0.60 " value=" 1.24"/>
<Point time="0.80 " value=" 1.00"/>
<Point time="1.00 " value=" 1.00"/>

The time points are relative to the full length of the clip. If you put this on a 1 second clip, the times are at 0, 0.5 seconds, 0.55 seconds, 0.60 seconds, 0.80 seconds then the end of the clip.

If you put this on a 10 second clip, it would happen times 0 seconds, 5 seconds, 5.5 seconds, 6 seconds, 8 seconds and then the end of the clip.

It's best to trim off a second of your clip and apply it.

The second parameter is how much zoom is applied.
1.00 = 100% = no additional zoom
1.20 = 120% = 20% additional zoom
1.24 = 124% = 24% additional zoom

If you want more zoom, then modify the numbers as desired.

Hi Angela. No video sample was made for this one.

I see from your other posts that you know how to save XML to AddOnTFX. Try it, you may like itWink

In Notepad, set "Save as type:" to "All Files (*.*) in the "Save As..." dialog before saving the heartbeat.xml file.

Good luck, PatrickL

Generally Windows won't let you save directly under the Program Files folder, so save it on your desktop (or Documents) as heartbeat.xml. Then move it to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX.

And also, ensure you are using WMM 6.0.

More questions:
1) Are you on Vista or Windows 7?
2) If Windows 7, are you on a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?
3) Where is MovieMk.exe installed?
4) Did you save as an .xml file? For example, if you click to open it, does it open in IE with the XML code formatted, or does it open in Notepad?
5) Have you ever installed other custom XML and does it work?
