Sorry for my ignorance with coding...

I have recently created a movie/tutorial with CamStudio (a screen recording program) using the function to record whole screen, any ideas how I would edit the existing widescreen effect:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Letterbox" iconid="13" comment="http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=13040">

<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleMultiTitles"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Letterbox"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderLast"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.9 0.8 0.1"/>
<Param name="BannerType" value="LowerFlood"/>
<Param name="BannerColor1" value="Black"/>
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.1 0.8 0.1"/>
<Param name="BannerType" value="UpperFlood"/>
<Param name="BannerColor1" value="Black"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

to just cover my start/taskbar?

Thank you greatly

Welcome to the forums!

Try this xml to mask the bottom of your video (it masks the bottom 10%):

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Letterbox Mod" iconid="13" comment="http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=13040">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Letterbox Mod"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.9 0.8 0.1"/>
<Param name="BannerType" value="LowerFlood"/>
<Param name="BannerColor1" value="Black"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

There was a request for this, but for Vista, so here is my translation of Neophyte's changes:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Letterbox (Bottom-only)" iconid="13" guid="Letterbox (Bottom-only)" comments="Post 122725">
<Param name="Animation" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Letterbox (Bottom-only)"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.9 0.8 0.1"/>
<Param name="BannerType" value="LowerFlood"/>
<Param name="BannerColor1" value="Black"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Are you looking for XP or Vista? If you go to my website I have a "letterbox effect" that works with Vista. Or if you want XP, the first post in this thread has the code.

And I wouldn't characterize this as "real" widescreen because it really is *masking* 4:3 video to *simulate* a letterbox look.

ya i want a simulation of widescreen with the letterbox thing, and the code u gave me does that, except that it makes the top black part alot bigger than the bottom, so it just kinda looks cheap, is it supposed to be like that?

That's funny... for me it makes them both 10% of the screen.

It works fine like on this putfile vid.....make sure you choose the title named 'letterbox' from your list inside Movie Maker.

The only thing I can think of is that you have a conflict. Make sure you delete your original xml that is in your AddOnTFX folder.....and also delete whatever you named any of them. Then copy and save the code CG listed at 7:19 p.m. just above. That is the code you want for xp and to look like my vid. Make sure you close out Movie Maker and restart it before you attempt to use the new title also. Good luck and have fun....Movie Maker rocks.

Hi there , how can I make the black borders thicker? I need them to be at least double the size they already are, do I need to change the values below?

<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.0 0.8 0.1"/>

The last parameter is the size, so make that bigger. Also, the 2nd parameter is the offset from the top. If you increase the bar size, you need to start the bottom bar higher.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">

<Param name="Description" value="Letterbox"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderLast"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.8 0.8 0.2"/>
<Param name="BannerType" value="LowerFlood"/>
<Param name="BannerColor1" value="Black"/>
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.0 0.8 0.2"/>
<Param name="BannerType" value="UpperFlood"/>
<Param name="BannerColor1" value="Black"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Re: Widescreen

Thankyou considerate guy! That's exactly what I needed for this project I'm working on, if I could get the bars to be slightly thinner then that would be perfect!

On another project I am working on, I would like to have a thin white line on the black bars, I have been browsing the forums and found the custom title called "White Edge Boarder". This effect is exactly what I'm looking for but I have two problems:

1) I want the black bars to remain the same but I want the white line to be thinner (half the size in thickness).

2) When I place this title over a 4 sec video (I am trying to make a background video which I will loop for the main movie) it interupts and slows the video down. I'm assuming it's because of the "ball spins out video shrinks" effect.

Is there is another/easier solution to get just the letterbox effect with a thin white line?

Below is the custom title "white edge border":

hello everyone,

i have a windows xp. i have downloaded the codes that were posted above, trying to get the "letterbox" widescreen look to my videos.

i made sure it was saved as a xml file and sent it to my AddOnTFX folder.

my question now is this...where do i find the widescreen option on my wmm?
i restarted my windows movie maker, and i can't find it.

i'm sure it's probably somewhere very simple and i am waisting time asking, but could someone please humor a silly girl and give me a clue as to where it could be.

thanks in advace!

Hi don't worry I was lost the first time too!.. you can find them in the Title section..

Click "Make Titles or Credits" which is under No.2 on the left handside...

Then click "Title on the selected clip" for example..

Then scroll down and click "Change the title animation"

Here you can browse all the title effects, to find the Letterbox effect just press "L"
