Posted by DeanWinchester on 11/17/2009 12:01:41 AM I used it on the version that Windows Vista had. not the 2.6 one but the one before it was updated to 2.6. | 2. | Re: Got a new comp, but emailed a project to myself before it happened but now... Posted by DeanWinchester on 11/18/2009 10:11:31 PM Well see my computer, my old one, fried. So we got a new one. That's why im stuck with windows seven. I emailed the project to myself before my comp died. So I downloaded the attachment and tried to open it in Windows movie maker 2.6. That didn't work. So I did some investigating on getting Windows Movie Maker 6 back. I then found Windows Live. I tried to open the file in it but I got "X's" on everything. It says the project is not fully compatible. So then i resorted to coming here ... |

If you haven't done so, try using a custom profile with Photo Story 3 (it's a free download) to make your slideshow, as it's better suited (IMHO) than Movie Maker for making slide shows.
If you prefer to use Movie Maker, check out PapaJohn's |
| 4. | Re: Black flashes during finished wmm video Posted by shine1673 on 11/20/2009 8:13:00 PM I don't seem 2 have any filters with .ax. I only just installed the klite codec pack 2 c if it was due 2 the fact that I'm missing any filters that might help. I used 2 change from flv to wmv but recently chose mp4 to wmv cuz the quality of video is better. If it was an mp4 problem I would think this flashing would affect all the vids I might use in my project. Also if it is the vid itself wouldn't I get the flash problem throughout that whole source vid and not just randomly in one or 2 parts ... |
| 5. | Re: Black flashes during finished wmm video Posted by shine1673 on 10/25/2009 8:55:09 PM I also wanted 2 say that its only in the saved final video that u c this. U cannot c it if u watch the movie within windows movie maker itself. |
| 6. | Re: "Cannot complete the save movie wizard" Posted by Neophyte on 11/15/2009 9:43:36 PM There are a number of reported causes for this problem.
Start by freeing up as much space as you can on your hard drive and freeing up as many system resources as you can before opening your project. Also, check to make sure the converted files play normally in Windows Media Player and, if they do, go to "Tools > Options > Compatibility" in Movie Maker and uncheck all the filters ending in .ax and see what happens.
If that doesn't help, ... |
| 7. | Re: "Cannot complete the save movie wizard" Posted by Neophyte on 11/19/2009 9:05:40 PM You can determine which version you have by opening Movie Maker and going to the "Help" menu and clicking on "About Windows Movie Maker". Post back if the fourth line indicates you have a version other than 2.1 (that's the latest version for Windows XP). |
| 8. | Can't use imported media from external hard drive Posted by pegmac on 11/17/2009 5:53:30 PM
When I captured my latest batch of film from my JVC camera (on mini dv) I decided to store it on my external hard drive in order to save space on my laptop, though the laptop has 200Gb free space.
In WMM, when I imported media from external hard drive, it appeared in the collections pane OK but when I dragged it down to the timeline it was the dreaded red crosses meaning, I think, it could not find the source.
The ext HD was still connected to the laptop.

What's the file format of the files you're using in your project and which versions of Windows and Movie Maker do you have? |

I have windows XP, and I couldn't tell the version of movie maker other then right clicking on the icon, clicking properties, and the version tab, which said 2.1.4026.0 |
| 11. | Re: Trying to publish to computer, stuck at 18% Posted by Neophyte on 8/21/2009 9:16:10 PM debo326 - if the converted wmv files play normally in Windows Media Player, go to "Tools > Options > Compatibility" and uncheck all the filters ending in .ax and see if that helps. If it doesn't, try breaking your project up into pieces and see if you can save the pieces.

| 12. | Publishing Issues! Posted by sean5aday on 11/14/2009 6:32:34 AM Hello all....I'm new to this but have the most annoying problem that is really annoying the h*ll out of me! All I'm trying to do is make the simplest of movies - basically I'm doing like karaoke-esque type movies - I put in an mp3 or a wav file and then I add text effects to it, so when the words are heard, they appear on screen. Nothing fancy or unusual. But everytime I go to publish the movie, Windows Movie Maker freezes up for a second and then shuts itself off. No error message or anything. ... |

| 14. | Problem after updating to Windows 7 Posted by ew1075 on 11/18/2009 9:14:21 PM For a while I was using Movie Maker on Vista Ultimate Edition and it was working perfectly. After upgrading to Windows 7, I had to download an older version of Movie Maker (2.6 I believe) just to get a version that somewhat resembled the Vista version.
Now my videos are taking over an hour to publish where before they were taking 10 minutes. They are the same exact videos (video game recorded using FRAPS). Nothing changed other than the Movie Maker version.

| 15. | Re: Problem after updating to Windows 7 Posted by Neophyte on 11/18/2009 10:59:14 PM Welcome to the forums.
Version 2.6 is essentially the XP version of Movie Maker repackaged to run under Vista. The Vista version uses your graphics card to render the movie whereas the XP version doesn't - that might explain the difference in processing time you noted.
You can run version 6.0 under Windows 7 - see this thread for more info on how to do that. |
| 16. | problem wiv mm on windows 7 Posted by andy155 on 11/19/2009 8:10:31 PM Hi
Since having windows 7 I just cannot get movie maker to run properly.
I downloaded movie maker 2.6, i can edit by putting pictures and music on but will not edit with my movie clips, I will import my movie clips but when I click play, no picture or sound will come up in the preview box. the movie I imported is a Movie Clip (.mpg) so it should work? right?
Another one tried was un-installing mm2.6 and downloading/installing windows live. all ... |

If it doesn't or you have Vista Basic, try using SUPER (it's a free download) to convert your files to avi format using ffmpeg and MS-mpeg4-v2 as the Video Output Codec. See this ... |

| 19. | Re: Windows Live Movie Maker - Released Posted by PapaJohn on 8/28/2009 5:37:19 PM I invited all my versions of Movie Maker over to my Windows 7 system for a party... and introduced them to Windows Live Movie Maker.
MM1, MM2.1, and MM2.6 are all getting along well with WLMM. MM2.6 even fixed an issue I had with MM2.1. MM6 hasn't shown up yet. |
| 20. | Re: Windows Live Movie Maker - Released Posted by papajohn on 9/3/2009 7:14:35 PM MM for Windows 7 is really Windows Live Movie Maker. MM2.6 was made for Vista.
Yes, I have all those versions on my Windows 7 system. |
| 21. | Re: Windows Live Movie Maker - Released Posted by PapaJohn on 9/3/2009 9:12:12 PM Installing MM2.6 on my Windows 7 system resolved the issues I had with still pictures in MM2.1.
Yes, you would need to register the MM2.1 DLLs... and MM1 also.
MM2.6 and WLMM would be OK... but as MM2.6 is a stripped down version of 2.1, v2.1 has more features. For example MM2.6 can't capture video from a mini-DV camcorder connected by firewire... and it can't capture music or other sounds, something I use often in MM2.1.
Except for paying ... |
| 22. | Re: Windows Live Movie Maker - Released Posted by Paradoxdb3 on 9/5/2009 4:05:53 AM Okay, I'm sold on the 64 bit version. After a bit of research (and seeing I'll be getting a new computer and other hardware anyway) I've decided to go with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit version. On what computer, I haven't totally decided yet.
But I'm getting off track....I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit. Can I still copy the Movie Maker folder on to the new Win7 64 bit machine? And do I need to have XP mode installed? Thanks again! |

| 24. | Re: Windows Live Movie Maker - Released Posted by considerate_guy on 11/19/2009 4:05:59 PM You can do this yourself if you have a backup of your Windows Vista computer. Pull out the complete contents of the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker folder. Restore these to the same location on your Windows 7 machine. Next register the 4 DLLs that start with WMM2<something>.DLL.
There have been a couple of posts from someone that has created an installer that does just that without out the manual steps. |
