Posted by darthsinister on 1/22/2009 5:22:50 PM
I stumbled upon an great file format for my HD videos that I rip from Blu-ray discs and put on my laptop when on the go.
I just wanted to know if .mkv files can be imported and edited and saved in any version of Windows Movie Maker.
I would like to be able to play these HD files on my XBOX 360.
For those of you who dont know: "The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard free Container format, a file format that can hold an ...

the .avi files depends on the codecs and the decoders, so say I might have a decoder, is there a possibility that it will work?

Well I checked the codec's I have installed and discovered that you'll need Haali Media Splitter installed for the video which Movie Maker will use and the AC3 decoder for the audio.
I've successfully tested this with WLMM (Windows Live Movie Maker) and was able to publish a .WMV file transcoded from a Matroska Media File.
However, seeing that I don't have a copy of Windows Vista anymore (I overwrote it with Windows 7 because of the efficiency) could people ...

Currently I've seen (with WMM) Bluescreen, Blackscreen, Greenscreen, and Whitescreen. Green, white and black have to be the exact colour or it wont work.

PapaJohn, in your home movie "mission to mars" what did you use as the set? I think I might know the place you filmed, becasue I've been to a place that looks exactly like that.

What format does the Flip render files in? You may have to convert them to something like DV-AVI or .wmv so that Windows Movie Maker can edit them.

Welcome to the Forums
Windows Movie Maker is perfect for editing your videos but if you would like to burn the files to DVD I would highly recommend using an external program. If you are using WIndows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate then you can try 'WIndows DVD Maker' which is built right into it.
If you are on Windows XP then perhaps you could download the 15 full trial ...

Sorry for the late reply, I've been off the forums for quite a while. If you want a automated slideshow made, then I'd recommend using Microsoft's PhotoStory 3.
You can run that on any version of Windows, XP and up. It automatically makes a Slide show with all your pictures and you can add your own music or custom stuff that PhotoStory can make for you to fit the exact length of the Slideshow.
After creating the .wmv file, I'd recommend using Windows DVD ...

I just bought that and am using it fine with Windows Movie Maker 2.6 on Windows 7 RTM.
Don't use the Pinnacle Software that came with it just make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers.
Click "Capture from video Source" on the top left and Windows Movie Maker should recognize the Dazzle as it would recognize a Firewire camera or USB Webcam.
I've had a problem with audio where WMM does not recognize the audio inputs. To fix that ...

.MOV and Quicktime files are not recognized by WMM. You will need to convert them to .avi or .wmv files.
What version of Windows Movie Maker are you using?
Your best bet would be using a free converter called

So I found some of my old 8mm and high8 tapes around the house and I now want to go digital with them. Only problem is that my camera broke and no longer functions and I can't find a 8mm tape deck anywhere.
How can I transfer the tapes to my computer without having to buy another camera? Any such player or converter? I have around 80 tapes so giving them to Geek Squad isnt an option on my budget.

You wont lose quality while converting if you set the output bitrate much higher than the input bitrate, infact things might look better. (double click to get information on input file)

Well I've finally saved up enough to get what I've wanted since it was announced: a HP Touchsmart Desktop PC!
From the review's I've read, the Vista interface is nice but the task bar buttons are too unwieldy; I can't wait to try this on my copy of the Windows 7 RTM tho.
I'm really curious to how precise the touchscreen will be, because it isn't a heat sensing or pressure sensing display, from what I've heard the screen uses a IR ...
